THE DESIGNER

 

My name is Guiomar Giraldo-Baron, I was born in Cartago, Colombia.  I am also the founder and designer of the clothing brand Guiomar.

 

My designs, include four key elements: color, proportion, functionality and comfort.  And I take inspiration from the colors of the sunsets, and the serenity of the island of Buenaventura, where I spent most of my childhood.

  

Growing up, It was inevitable that I would continue my family's business, as I was influenced at a young age, by my father, and uncles who were tailors, and my grandmother and mother who were seamstress.  I remember been dressed in fancy all lace outfits by my mother who had an amazing sense of style.  Surrounded by this wealth of artistic skill and expertise, inspired me to learn their craft and then pursue my own fashion career. 

 

In New York City, I received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, at the Fashion Institute of Technology.  And as a clothing designer I had the opportunity to venture in the costume design world, which opened the door for Guiomar to design costumes for plays like “Story of Rats",  "Two Rooms," and "Angels in America" among others.
